HUBER ENGINEERED MATERIALS ANNOUNCES GLIDANT FOR ORAL DOSAGE TABLET FORMULATIONS AND PROCESSING

ATLANTA, GEORGIA, November 2, 2004 — Huber Engineered Materials, a business unit of J.M. Huber Corporation, today announced the introduction of RxCIPIENTS® GL precipitated silica glidants. The new products are offered in two grades for oral dosage tableting operations and formulations.

Laboratory tests showed that RxCIPIENTS glidants achieved equal or better results than colloidal silica glidants even when used in smaller quantities. The results, according to Rajeev Karpe, global new product development leader, pharmaceuticals, reflect an optimal cost-in-use scenario.

“When producing tablets, a variety of ingredients will aid the flow of particulate solids in the hopper or tableting press,” said Karpe.  “But, a higher density silica, like the GL series, will reduce nuisance dust and maximize throughput.”

The new glidants can deliver faster tablet production, stronger tablet strength, less dust and blending optimization by ensuring homogenous distribution throughout the tablet blend.

“Huber has a leadership role in the chemistry and application knowledge of precipitated silica technology,” said Mike Carpenter, business segment leader, pharmaceutical excipients and nutritional businesses.  “Adding another product to our popular RxCIPIENTS brand was a natural investment for Huber.”

RxCIPIENTS GL series glidants expand Huber’s oral dosage excipient offerings and joins existing fast-dissolve and carrier ingredients.
